100 Days in Deadland Deadland Saga Book 1 eBook Rachel Aukes

I had this book for awhile now and never got to reading it. Man I don't know what I was waiting for. I want to say that I loved this book. I hate reading books where the female lead is not someone I can relate to. I can relate to Cash. She knows she isn’t perfect, but she tries. She makes mistakes, but doesn’t give up. She is like family members and co-workers I know. She wants to survive this outbreak and she knows she can’t be that weak woman she was before. Clutch is a person I know. He is several of my military friends. He is the type of person I would trust to take care of my kids if the world ever ended up with Zeds everywhere. He is big, tough, and smart. That is the best thing to have around you when the Zeds are around and the world has gone mad.
If you like characters you can relate to then this is an amazing book to read. It really made me think about what I would do if the world went into madness and Zeds were everywhere.
This is a wonderful book and I can't wait to read the next one.

100 Days in Deadland Deadland Saga Book 1 eBook Rachel Aukes Reviews

Very engaging, I found the characters well filled out and the story held my attention all the way through. Very intense. The characters are well written and each chapter left me wanting more. Love the character interaction and story development. It is like being in a knife fight that doesn't end until the last page, I love reading his stuff. easy to get caught up in the pages and feel as if you are there.

I really did not appreciate the lack of sleep, so DO NOT pick this up until you are ready to commit to an all-night sleep-defying read!” had a hard time putting the book down.
100 Days in Deadland begins with intensity and horror right from the beginning. No worries about getting bored while waiting for the action to ramp-up. No, you’re up to your eyeballs in it as soon as you crack open the book. Dropped into the first circle of hell right along side our main character, Mia –who is soon given the nickname Cash and sticks with it. Cash is a strong female character and I enjoyed her development throughout the story. Her compadre, Clutch –a man she meets early on in the story– is my favorite, though. He’s the kind of character that really makes me feel the story. He’s the type of man that makes you work for trust and respect… and even affection. And once you’ve gained all of those things, a forever bond is formed.

This story has the perfect blend of horror, action, intensity, and adventure. There’s more to fear than just the zombies in this tale, and I love the circles of hell twist this author bring to the undead table. The pacing is flawless. Even considering how busy I’ve been lately, I found it very difficult to put this book down for any reason. You know… like sleeping at night, or feeding my family, or writing.

There’s a bit of romance that develops throughout the story which I was on the fence about. It's understandable that two people in this type of situation would eventually seek out intimacy, but I wasn’t really looking for it between these two characters. There was one aspect of the romance I distinctly did not like. It felt forced, and came out of left field. It pulled me out of the story during those few pages. Other than that, and a few other minor issues, this was a pretty badass zombie book. As soon as I get the chance I will be reading the second book, Deadland’s Harvest. Yes, I’ve already purchased it, and it whispers to me late at night when I close my eyes. I need to know what happens next!

If you’re a fan of horror and zombies, you won’t want to miss out on 100 Days of Deadland!
Because it was another zombie novel, to be completely honest, my expectations for 100 Days in Deadland was fairly low. I was expecting gore, gore and more gore, but I was secretly hoping for a storyline that would suck me in like "The Walking Dead" television series.

The novel opens up in the bathroom where our protagonist, Mia, is being attacked by Melanie from Accounting. Rachel Aukes' breathes life into her characters. They weren't all likable, but they were all realistic in their own way. We see the zombie apocalypse through Mia's eyes as she travels through Des Moines, IA (the setting for Dante's Inferno and the nine circles of hell).

Mia and the rest of the characters begin to evolve into who the zombie apocalypse has made them into (except for Clutch. Clutch is Clutch. Hard. Uncompromising. Troubled with his own code of honor. Perfect for a zombie apocalypse). Mia soon becomes Cash. It was refreshing to see a female lead in an PA novel, where she didn't rely on others for survival, but also wasn't some Wonder Woman archetype. The travel through Dante's nine circles of hell which was Des Moines was very creative, and is a great example of Ms. Aukes' wit.

I immediately purchased the next novel in the series, Deadland's Harvest, because 100 Days in Deadland was just that good. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes "The Walking Dead" television series. I believe it's even better than my last favorite zombie novel, World War Z. For me, finding a great read is like finding a box full of treasure. The box is the writer and the treasure is her novels. I will be reading anything that Rachel Aukes has written. Bravo, Ms. Aukes. Bravo!!

Quote from 100 Days in Deadland "Whatever you didn't plan for, that's what's going to happen."
